WHY CAN'T I HAVE THISSSSS

Design Intern

TASCHEN America is seeking a design intern for its office in Los Angeles, beginning February 16th. This is a great opportunity for someone with an interest in design, typography, production for print, and the publishing industry. We require a commitment of 40 hours/week for a period of 6 months. The internship pays a modest stipend. Subject areas covered by TASCHEN America editors are pop culture, photography, and sex, so a particular interest in these disciplines is preferred. We encourage you to view our titles at www.taschen.com.

Familiarity with Photoshop and Illustrator on Mac OS X are required, as is firm understanding of design and production with QuarkXPress and InDesign (creating documents using master pages, basic typesetting using style sheets, working comfortably with images and type). The work is extremely detail-oriented, so organization and great follow-through skills are also a must.

Responsibilities will be focused on assisting the design/production departments in various tasks for upcoming titles, including substantial work placing image files in layouts, basic typesetting, and helping to create and present layouts throughout the production cycle of each title. The position also includes ongoing maintenance of our font and image archives, scanning and cataloging original art. Additional tasks could include filing, photocopying, shredding, running errands, and generally helping out with whatever needs to be done (this means filling in to help with PR, stuffing envelopes, deliveries, or making an espresso for an important visitor).

All applicants must be based in or near Los Angeles, as we cannot support relocation. Organized and enthusiastic candidates should send a cover letter, resume and PDF portfolio (under 4 MB) to Jennifer Patrick, j.patrick@taschen.com, with the words "Design Internship" in the subject line. No phone calls, please.
